Prioritize Your Life

What do new year’s resolutions and studying abroad have in common? They usually don’t last as long as you want them to… As soon as February comes around, reality generally steps in a throws your plans for a loop. Anyone agree with me? And if not, more power to you! (Teach me your ways.)

I confess: my problem was a combination of both reality after returning from London and the fact that I tend to put too many things on my plate. (Does anyone else do that?) I want to do everything and make everyone happy, but I’m starting to learn I have to make time for things that make me happy too!

Although I can honestly say that I am happy to devote my time to everything I currently do. Either because I’m dedicated to the cause (event planning for recruitment for Gamma Omicron chapter of Alpha Delta Pi or helping to coordinate a 5K race to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation) or because I love the work (Sterling Communications and PRSSA).

But, there are so many other things I want to do: apply to more internships so I can get a summer internship, write articles for Mashed Marketing and Her Campus, read the Hunger Games… and write on my own blog!!

I know how to prioritize when it comes to my responsibilities and classes, so why can’t I prioritize when it comes to my own life? Taking time off is something I generally reserve for sleeping in on weekends and breaks from school. However, I have found recently that when I schedule in time to get tea with a friend or dinner with my sorority sisters my day gets a little brighter and things seem more doable. Do any of you find that you have to schedule in down time? It’s really not as bad as it sounds – my planner and iCal are my best friends! Intern Queen, Lauren Berger, demonstrates how to prioritize and schedule your life in her book All Work, No Pay.

So you might be thinking, what does this post have to do about fashion, not much except if you’re going to be busy all the time, look stylish while you’re doing everything! Oh, and if you’re not on Pinterest yet, get on there – tons of style inspiration.

And moral of the post is… The Naked Mannequin is back!  xx

Where to begin…

I’ve spent the last week thinking about what I can say that will accurately depict how I felt last Wednesday. Excited, nervous, confident, timid, prepared, unprepared, awed, shocked, intrigued, blissful, embarrassed, ecstatic, tired…  I can keep going.

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011: the first day of the rest of my life. As I am now referring to it. Honestly, I don’t know if I could pinpoint the highlight of the day:

Was it meeting a lady on the Subway who had a membership to the Met and got me past 3 hours of lines at the McQueen exhibition?  The exhibition was breathtaking – seeing Lee Alexander McQueen’s designs up close was one experience I did not want to miss.  And, I wouldn’t have had time to wait on line if I didn’t meet that lady. Best. Luck. Ever.

The Stylesight Live trend forecasting event, my first real glimpse at the fashion industry, where I learned the trends for the F/W 2012 and S/S 2013 seasons?! Just being at the event made me feel like a star struck tween seeing Justin Beiber from the hundredth row at a concert. You can imagine how coherent I was when I attempted to network. Good job, Ally.

Or, shopping in Soho with Teresa, finding amazing sales and then feeling guilty about shopping and only buying shoes? Probably not this one just because I wish I bought more! Damn conscience telling me to save money for London. But, really, I think it was the combination of all these things that made this day one I’ll never forget.

Here are some photos from the day:

Outfit posts coming soon! =) Leave comments, I’d love to hear the feedback. Also, follow my blog on BlogLovin’!

At a loss for words…

If you haven’t already noticed, my recent posts are more word based than your average style blog.

I know that pictures speak louder than words. Pictures tell stories; they convey emotion and elicit an immediate reaction from the viewer (unlike prose, which takes time to read and interpret before you can develop an opinion.)  However, my blog posts are generally the outcome of hours spent killing time when I have nothing to do at work. Hence, the long rambling posts.

As much as I would love to have daily outfit posts, I must admit, my life has been less-than-glamourous lately. My weekday wardrobe consists of business casual attire – with my own twist of course.  But, truthfully, my place of employment is more on the conservative side, which leaves me with little room to experiment.

Just when I thought I was doomed to have wordy posts for the rest of the summer… I had a photo shoot with my sister’s friend, Ekta, who is into photography. That’s right – Expect new outfit posts very soon!! After all, this is intended to be primarily a style blog. I hope you haven’t given up on me this quickly!

In addition to new photos, you can also expect a post on the Stylesight Live Global Trend Tour in New York tomorrow. I am busy finishing up some last-minute handmade business cards for the event (which will also be featured in an upcoming post.)

Rest assured, the outfit posts will exponentially increase when I get to London. 22 DAYS, 5 HOURS, and 22 MINUTES away! Not like I’m counting down or anything…

So, if you’ve read my wordy posts, the outfits will be a breath of fresh air. Cheers!

P.S. Thanks for reading =) And, please comment. I’d love the feedback.
