Prioritize Your Life

What do new year’s resolutions and studying abroad have in common? They usually don’t last as long as you want them to… As soon as February comes around, reality generally steps in a throws your plans for a loop. Anyone agree with me? And if not, more power to you! (Teach me your ways.)

I confess: my problem was a combination of both reality after returning from London and the fact that I tend to put too many things on my plate. (Does anyone else do that?) I want to do everything and make everyone happy, but I’m starting to learn I have to make time for things that make me happy too!

Although I can honestly say that I am happy to devote my time to everything I currently do. Either because I’m dedicated to the cause (event planning for recruitment for Gamma Omicron chapter of Alpha Delta Pi or helping to coordinate a 5K race to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation) or because I love the work (Sterling Communications and PRSSA).

But, there are so many other things I want to do: apply to more internships so I can get a summer internship, write articles for Mashed Marketing and Her Campus, read the Hunger Games… and write on my own blog!!

I know how to prioritize when it comes to my responsibilities and classes, so why can’t I prioritize when it comes to my own life? Taking time off is something I generally reserve for sleeping in on weekends and breaks from school. However, I have found recently that when I schedule in time to get tea with a friend or dinner with my sorority sisters my day gets a little brighter and things seem more doable. Do any of you find that you have to schedule in down time? It’s really not as bad as it sounds – my planner and iCal are my best friends! Intern Queen, Lauren Berger, demonstrates how to prioritize and schedule your life in her book All Work, No Pay.

So you might be thinking, what does this post have to do about fashion, not much except if you’re going to be busy all the time, look stylish while you’re doing everything! Oh, and if you’re not on Pinterest yet, get on there – tons of style inspiration.

And moral of the post is… The Naked Mannequin is back!  xx

Done with excuses…

Less than 140 characters was all it took for me to stop making excuses and just blog. I follow @FashionweekNYC  on Twitter, and yesterday the “Independent Entertainment Tweetologist” behind the Twitter handle tweeted: “Quote of the Day: If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way & If you don’t, You’ll find an excuse!”

BAM. Light bulb. Cue inspirational music. After weeks of deliberating how I could possibly start a post after a two-month hiatus, I finally realized that I’m done with making excuses – I just want to blog. I’m not sure if this post will satisfy 2 months worth of content, but I have to start somewhere…

Saying “it’s been a while” would be an understatement.  I feel like apologies are in order.  I’m sorry for being MIA!  For anyone reading this who used to follow my blog, thank you for coming back. If it’s your first visit, welcome to The Naked Mannequin.  I promise you, it’s going to be better than ever!

But first, I’m going to answer the questions I know you’re all thinking: Why have I not posted in so long? What have I been doing? As you may know, I am studying abroad this semester in London. Assumptions confirmed, I’m obsessed with this city! I’m also in denial that I’m leaving in a month. Over the past two months, I have traveled quite a bit (although, if I had endless funds and time, I would have traveled more).  I have been to Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany; Rome, Perugia, Florence, Milan and Como in Italy; Paris, France; Kusadasi, Turkey; Athens, Greece; and the Aegean Islands of Mykanos, Patmos, Crete and Santorini. So, that partially answers those questions.

To be perfectly honest, blogging as a working college student during the summer is one thing… blogging as a student studying abroad in London, England is a whole different playing field.  I had a plan to blog outfit posts at least once a week, probably share some traveling stories – but then I started exploring, meeting new people, making the most of my time here, and before long I somehow abandoned all my well-intentioned plans. However, that is about to change.

I’ve spent weeks considering what I could write for my “welcome back” blog post. I probably should have just written something, as it’s better than nothing.  During that time, I was learning about blogs in my interactive communications class, for which I created another blog. I’ve learned a lot, which I intend to apply to future blog posts. And those blog posts will not be few and far between. That’s my new goal.

Look back tomorrow, when I will start a series of outfit posts. Less words, more fashion! But for now, I leave you with a little sneak peek – my favorite outfit of the past week.

You know, just hanging out in Ancient Ephesus in Turkey!

Stop making excuses & just blog!  XO
